Movement Effect Can-Can BPM

Post by mgutowski » Fri Jun 05, 2009 7:08 pm

The designer we just had in used A LOT of can-can and ballyhoo. She did ask an interesting question that I didn't have an answer to:

What is the percentage relative to on the rate of the effect?

I went into the manual and got nothing. I told her that is was relative to the rate, hahaha!

The reason she asked is because she had all the movers point mid-stage center, and she had them going in a Can-Can. What she was attempting to do, but ultimately failed at, was have them can-can back and forth like a pendulum to the beats of the music. A lofty goal, as wel all know that without fine tuning for hours, this probably cannot be done, and the 10 min she had for the number was just not going to cut it.
I thought though that if there were a way to have a selection tool, that all you would do is tap at it. As you tap the computer would find the BPM of what you are taping. As now you have your BPM, you can now set a maximums in either direction for the can-can and the computer would know the bpm and know the speed needed to get to the set values in time to the bpm.

Check that, pretty simple idea of how to get the BPM. Thanks!

Rather then a "can-can" effect you could have just placed a sine, saw, square, etc. on the tilt attribute rather then using the "can-can" function. It might have been a little easier then trying to control the effect.

if you can build this as a cue list, the cue list properties dialogue box now has a rate option.

Remember you can change the cycle to "time".
Then you can specify the exact time in seconds you want one cycle through the effect to take.

Of course that was added in 10.5.26 and we are still running 10.5.25. Not to mention the fact that the effect in question is not running in it's own cue list.

Andy, Are you allowed to upgrade to the RELASED 10.6.1 on the Strand site yet?

Finding an hour between dance recitals is tough at this time of year. 600+ cues in a 3 hour show this week. 20 hours of programming time, 16 hours of rehearsal time and 3 performances makes for a busy week. Next week isn't much better.
