techno-tard needs help

Post by RichMoore » Tue Jul 29, 2008 12:19 pm

Hi guys,

I am new to the board here and this is my first post.

I am an old guy who has been thrust back into actually working with all of the new lighting toys and systems and I find that I am out of my depth, as our Brit cousins put it, and I freely admit it, so I am asking for help from those who are better versed than I.

Using a 520i, I am trying to control a series of 7 ColorKey LED par units which have been placed into my inventory. Following is what I wrote into the fixture library, based on the sheet provided with the LED units, with CH1=Red,CH2=Green,CH3=Blue,and CH4=Dimmer, that has a value of 189:

14 0, 0, 255, 0, 0
15 0, 0, 255, 0, 0
16 0, 0, 255, 0, 0
1 0, 0, 189, 0, 0

Now I am presuming that the 1 that I put into channel four is to control the intensity of the light, i.e. dimming. Is this where I went wrong? If not, then perhaps it is the DMX addressing using the dip switches on the fixture?

The sheet shows that Dip 10 (only) is on in DMX mode.

In Other mode(?) the sheet states that the DMX address is 1 when in DMX mode....but it shows that Dip 10 and Dip 1 are on.

In the words of Vinnie Barbarino....."I'm so confused...".

I am sure that the solution is so simple that when I get it, I will most likely be tempted to find something very high that I can throw myself off of to make that SPLAT sound.

Thanks,

Rich

Code: Select all

This should actually read as

Code: Select all

14, 0, 0, 255, 0, 0
15, 0, 0, 255, 0, 0
16, 0, 0, 255, 0, 0
1, 0, 0, 255, 0, 0
For starters there has to be a comma after each of the values in each line. Secondly, having 189 instead of 255 will just limit the maximum intensity of the dimmer to about 74%. If you are trying to set the fixture to a DMX address of 189 you will have to use the dip switches on the fixture to achieve that.

It sounds like if you wish to control the fixture in DMX mode, regardless of what the address is, you are required to have switch 10 on. So, if you were to address the 7 lamps as address 1, 5, 9, 13, 17, 21, 25 this is what your dip switch settings on each lamp would look like...

Lamp 1 - DMX 1 - S1=ON, S10=ON, all other switches off
Lamp 2 - DMX 5 - S1=ON, S3=ON, S10=ON
Lamp 3 - DMX 9 - S1=ON, S4=ON, S10=ON
Lamp 4 - DMX 13 - S1=ON, S3=ON, S4=ON, S10=ON
Lamp 5 - DMX 17 - S1=ON, S5=ON, S10=ON
Lamp 6 - DMX 21 - S1=ON, S3=ON, S5=ON, S10=ON
Lamp 7 - DMX 25 - S1=ON, S4=ON, S5=ON, S10=ON

Hope that helps.

amoyer,

When I went back into the fixture library, I did have all of the commas in place, so that was not the problem.

I have not had much luck with the addressing of the LED pars yet, because I have been busy with a sound issue today. I will give it another shot tomorrow.
