500 compatibility

Post by mattbinnie » Tue Jul 01, 2008 5:33 am

we send numerous shows out to other venues, many of which have either 500s or 300s. Currently there is no way that I have found to convert *.spf's to *.ssf's. I have been told that allegedly show port will do it if you export the *.spf to an *.alq, but all I have seen this do is hang several different computers. Can something be created to fill this requirement?

Actually I misspoke here when I said this was coming in the next version. I was thinking about a different conversion protocol. I don't have an answer for you now but we are discussing it.

Unfortunately, when Strand went into receivership everyone in the UK (including all the programmers familiar with the 500) were made redundant (by law). This fact combined with the difference in the Palette's Abstract Control Model vs. the 500's "DMX style" control model makes converting a Palette SPF to an old SSF not currently possible.

The only other alternative would be for the 500 to use the ALQ file generated from the Palette, but apparently the 500 does not have this capability.

Showport does read .alq-files and I think it can convert to .ssf. I am not sure how good this will work on movinglight shows. Shows with only dimmers mustn't be too hard, I guess.

Matt - I'll come and see you next week and see if we can sort this out. I'll contact you off list to arrange. I have been able to do this via show port on simple shows, but maybe they is some weird happening.
