dongle accident

Post by mat » Fri Oct 11, 2013 2:03 pm

I had a very stressing experience last day,
I was working on my LP VL ,making pdf's of my show .
As my pdf's were created I decided to copy it on my usb stick.
I drag and drop it, but by mistake I drop it on the dongle.
I have a Lightpalette since 2008 and it never happened to me!
So I drag and drop again the pdf's of my show in the correct usb stick.
Then I decided to delete the pdf from the dongle, I select the file then delete it.
the result is that the 2 files .txt have no text written in (the ones that say that you cannot format the dongle),and are 0k (instead of the ones of my backup which are 1K).
The desk seems to work fine(online, 3000 channels ok) ,tracking backup and remote engine session as well, but I am quiet stressed.

I have some questions:
Is this text important?
Why did it happen?
could'nt the dongle be more protected!!?

thanks

I believe there are levels of protection for those files so I wouldn't expect there to be any issues especially since the key is working fine.

Well, what would happen if I unplug the dongle and replug it ?
Any chance to reset it and getting this text again?

The only real danger is formatting the key. There is a file that you cannot see that holds the password. If you format the key it will be deleted but under normal circumstances you should not be able to delete it. The text files are only warnings of what not to do and to remind you which key is the password key. You could put a text file that says do not use or what ever you want. It has no effect on the password.

Also, if you want the original .txt files back. You can delete (right click, delete) the existing files, then start the Palette OS and new copies will automatically be created on the dongle.
