Suggestions for RFU improvement

Post by TerryHynes » Thu Jul 02, 2009 10:48 am

Where should this sort of dialogue be directed? Is an upgrade to the RFU software in the works? I'm currently running v. 3.0.

Bobby apparently has a beta version that he has been running for a while now. Maybe one day he will share it with us all! ;)

Eventually the RFU application will become my animal, from what I have been told.
Brian = Sucker

I don't think it will be for at least a few more months before it is handed over,
there are quite a few things, like printing, that are higher on the totem pole.

I can say that once I inherit the project, I will most likely start from scratch.
The current application has become a ball of twine from what I hear,
because it began with Marquee, and LUA scripts available were limited.

Brian, if you could manage to add a RemDim button, a Group button, a Next & Last similar to the 500 series, and some sort of patch menu you would be my hero. Moving light controls would be nice too, I would love to be able to record positions while on stage.

Another minor issue: with the way the RFU is locked out, is there a way to change the time? My RFU is constantly tricking me into thinking the end of the work call is sooner than it really is.

Do you have the Symbol wireless RFU?
The only way to change the time on the RFU is too log into the main part of the handheld device and change it in the operating system.
Send me a private message if you would like some guidance. (Provided of course that the password is actually the same on all the devices) I don't know if Strand wants us to give all of their secrets out.

Is there anyway to install the RFU to any old PDA?

Here are my requests for the RFU software. Some of these are duplicated from other posts in the list to help emphasize the desire for those functions.

- Patch screen. Maybe only "Output" patch screen but "Fixture" would be nice. No need for the "Rout" patch, should be done from console only.
- The "Output" control screen needs a "Through" button.
- Releasing an Output in output control, command line needs to copy what appears in command line of console. Hard to tell if you have "Rel" an output or not.
- In Channel Check, allow for checking channels above 1024. At the moment if you type anything higher than 1024 it defaults to 1.
- Some form of virtual encoders when selecting an "intelligent" fixture would be cool.
- "Next" and "Last" buttons (like Strand 500) on physical buttons on RFU. Difficult to keep the stylus in the same place on the screen for lamp check.
- "Rem Dim" button in channel control.

That's all for now but I'm sure I'll find more. I'm not extremely happy with the RFU software but I'd rather see console programing quirks take a higher priority.
