Backup or save

Post by shoop54 » Fri Jan 19, 2018 4:00 pm

Hello
what is the difference between backup and save ?
What is the différence in the NEO/show_backups folder between:

show.FDB
Activeshow.neo 19000ko
show_rev1.NEO ? 1000ko

during a restoration by a backup, a few circuits are set to full and tracking in cues. bugs?
Only solution : reload a ....show_rev.neo !

configuration:
full tracking mode
cue only / track attribs
With last version

Thank's
Neo release 3.8.1 build 145

If you save, you create a .NEO file. The automatic backup system will add REV_#'s to the name of the .NEO file. These file types are the same.

There is the ability to create/load to/from a backup which works with a .zip file.

I've asked Martin to respond here as it seems you had some trouble and I want to make sure that we are understanding the issue you have.

Essentially a backup file is a firebird backup (BAK) that has been zipped. When restoring a backup the system will accept either a BAK or a ZIP file. If it see's a zip file then it will automatically extract the BAK and restore that.

A NEO file has another level of ZIP archive on top of that. A NEO file is ZIP file with a different extension. If you rename it from .NEO to .ZIP you can open it an look inside. Inside you will find a standard zipped backup of the show. The reason for the zip inside a zip format of the NEO file is that a NEO file can also hold any other files we want to store. A good example of the capabilities this the NPS (packed show). An NPS is exactly the same as a NEO file but it also contains other stuff such as media, settings etc.

In fact is beta's of the new NEO file system we did not use a different extension for packed shows and standard shows. From NEO's perspective they are all the same with just the content stored being different.

You may be interested to know that this idea actually comes from Microsoft Office. If you rename a .DOCX or .XLSX file to .ZIP you can open them and look at contents.

I hope that helps to understand the files.
Martin
