Midi Triggering

Post by cptechman » Sun Oct 20, 2013 12:50 pm

I am expecting delivery of Strand 250ML in a few days. Can anyone tell me, please, if it will output midi commands to other devices (PC running sound via SFX software in this case)?
Can other devices trigger 250ML cues via midi?
The 250ML downloaded user guide does not deal with its midi functionality in any detail. Where can I get that information?

Here's what the manual says about what it does and doesn't support.

There are different types of MIDI messages. The only one that the 250ML console supports is Channel Voice.
The Channel setting allows the console to listen to any channel from 0 to 15. The Note variable allows the console to listen to individual Voice Channels 0 to 127.

Let me see if I can find out more info.

Thanks for the response, Bobby
I'm pleased that the answer isn't completely obvious because I would have felt a nit!
Manuals don't usually mention features that are not present so my feeling is that the board will accept midi commands in but not send them out.
I am nowhere with understanding midi so I'm learning but also I'm after some guidance as to what needs to be sent from the external triggering device to cause the 250ML to 'Go' on a regular cue in the cue stack.

Anticipating the outcome of your researches eagerly!

John

Great. I'm still working on this but one indication about MIDI is that if a board does MIDI OUT, then it's generating MIDI. The 250ML is not a MIDI generator therefore it does not send MIDI.

I do know that the MIDI here is very simple as it only does Note On and Note Off function. I'm still working on the spec of what that truly means.

The 250ML does MIDI In and Thru only. It's not a MIDI generator therefore it does not do MIDI Out.

Hello.
I' m trying to trigger cues in the board from qlab. I set up the channel and voice in both systems as channel 1 and voice 1.
In qlab I set it as note on. But nothing happens in the 250ml. What am I not doing?
Console software is 1.2

Thanks
