Palette VL 64 fails to power up

I have an issue I can't seem to resolve:

My VL is no more than 3 years old. It starts up, but sporatically it won't. I have gained permission to open the unit from StrandLighting. I unplugged all the usb's, no power up. I unplugged the unit and plugged back in, no power up. I checked the power supply voltages. All are correct. I notice on the back where the network port is, the transmit/receive light is flashing rapidly. There is no network cord in the port. One time while the brain was out of the unit, the light slowed down then stopped flashing. I connected the switch and it powered on. The unit has gone down again for the third time in 4 weeks. Any suggestions on a fix other than sending it in? My budget won't allow that.
The Palette VL 64 is running software version 10.8.4.

To bypass the problem, I am currently using a laptop with software version 10.8.4 running through a usb hub. This works fine, but I need the laptop for other things.

The only symptom that stands out for me is the flashing on the NIC when no network cable is present.

I would plug in a cable, check the network configuration and likely change it. If it's set for a static then switch it to DHCP. See if this gets it to respond normally.

Last night, I left the VL unplugged all night. Today, I plugged it back in, waited 2 hours, and after holding the power button for 5 seconds, waiting 3 seconds and pressing the power button again, the unit powers up. I am confuzzled why the board will have random start/non-start phases. Part of the symptoms I have noticed is when it isn't going to power up, the light flashes by the nic port. My next step is to try to install the newest version of software.

I don't know if that will work, but I will try it.

Bobby, I don't use the VL on any network and haven't connected it to any network. I am just wondering if the xmit/rcv light is a troubleshooter mechanism for when the board is not operating correctly.

I guess your power button might be disconnected. Try the D-sub connector and refasten. Or maybe it is a faulty button. Network lights flash even if nothing is connected and the desk is off. Only the powercord needs to be connected for those lights to flash. So I think it ha nothing to do with it.

To make life easier you could go into the BIOS during startup and change the settings to start the computer as soon as the powercord is plugged in.
