10.6.4 update issue

Post by tech52 » Thu Mar 11, 2010 6:16 pm

I recently updated the software on our Palette 32/64 console and at first everything seemed to be working Ok, however after about 30 mins or so the command control section of the console stops working. If you reboot the console it starts working again and then stops as before. I have tried changing the USB port this tile is plugged into with no effect.

Have a look at the system logs (text files on the D Drive).

Pick a log that would have happended when the system went funny, and look inside. You should be able to see the panel "disconnect". If you see it continually disconnecting and reconnecting, get service support.

At tleast this will give you a starting point.

Is there any other possible explanation? There seems to be no evidence of the disconnect/reconnect loop in the logs from my console for the day this last happened.
And if it's the same thing that happened to me it's not neccessarily related to 10.6.4 since both times I was running 10.6.2.

Does it show a single disconnect when it happens?

The log should show it "finding" the panel, and then later removing it.

Another explanation for tiles going off line and not returning till a reboot or power cycle is the use of the floppy disk drive power supply. This would only effect silver palette, console playback tiles, that have a connector wired and attached. The issue is that the pcb can be powered from two sources. The 1st is the USB connection and the 2nd is the floppy connector labeled J4. The problem is that the circuit that selects the power source can heat up and shut power down control to the tile. No power no function. A temporary solution would be to disconnect the power connector J4 on the playback tile. The long term solution would be to have the tile serviced per tech bulletin 200704050. Current tiles in the Palette II series will only run from USB and do not have this issue.

I sent my logs for the day it happened to Horizon, and Gary emailed me that in all the logs he saw both tiles come online and stay that way.

There were four logs for that date, and I'm positive that that was the date it occurred. I'm trying to decide if this is a hardware issue and I should have the console serviced as Matt suggests, or if it is possibly a software issue that will be corrected eventually. I'm open to any advice or suggestions.
