Power Patch

Post by golights » Tue Nov 25, 2008 5:17 pm

If I use the blue box to patch a fixture or dimmer I can enter 4.1 and the fixture is patched correctly 4.1(1537)but if I patch fixtures using power patch and in the output start box I enter 4.1 my patch is started a 1.4(4). To patch correctly I have to enter (1537). Shouldn't I be able to enter 4.1 in the output start box to get the desired patch?

Also if I have a fixture patched to 4.1 and patch a dimmer to 4.1 I get "Command un-patches fixture. Are you sure?" but if I have a dimmer patched to 4.1 and patch a fixture to 4.1 my dimmer is unpatched and no question is asked. This causes just as many problems as it would if the fixture was unpatched. Could we get an "Are You Sure" when anything is unpatched?

I am suprised to see power patch hasn't gone away all together.
It dates back to the days where you couldn't type 1 thru 24 Type VL2500 Spot @ 1 on the command line,
and have the DMX addresses all fall into place.

If it remains, then can it please be renamed "Patch Wizard" or something similar. This function is not really about "patching power", so the name "power patch" is a little confusing for those of us that speak english real good. ;)

Maybe it should be the default patch method for the Windows UI personality? And I think Patch wizard would be a good name!

The term Power Patch is over 10 years old (from Horizon). I think you guys are right.

If power patch is going to join the dodo on the extinct list we really need to all the softkey for "Increment" when command line patching. This is the one reason I keep going to power patch.

I had to patch 20 Wybron Nexera's and I was really thankful for the power patch!
They were like this:
201 int.
202 color a
203 color b
204 color c
205 int.
etc.

No one is talking about eliminating the function - just renaming it.

If Taine starts talking about dodo's, I am afraid for extinction ;)
