Fast Effects

Post by JohnGrimshaw » Wed Feb 27, 2008 3:18 pm

Demoing console to new user, and showing how to use effects with a cue list. Client came up with interesting idea:

A function that converts a "non cuelist" effect into a new cuelist
- that way individual steps could be quickly altered for precise operation in a show
- users would have a better understanding for what the cue is actually doing
- far better control
You could make your changes to specific steps, and then use the Cuelist effect function to run the effect

Sounds like the Hog I's Stack Builder.

So, you want to do something like Random Strobe - then have it build (say) 10 steps (that alone is a bit of contension). Then you could go edit those steps, then call that list as a source in a Cue List Chase FX from the main cue list?

Hey - I didn't say this would be "easy" ;)

The example given involved showing the steps to create a chase in another cue list, and then how to trigger that chase in the main cue list via an effect.
- labourious to create, but absolute control over each step

Meanwhile, a simple 24 step chase can made quickly with the effect generator, but to "add/change a fixture into one particular step in the chase" was tricky, or not possible.
- easy to create, but little/no control over each step

What we wanted to be able to do was:
- select the base 24 ch in the chase, in the order of the flash
- record as a group at 100%
- apply the effect
- export to cue list
- minor modifications
- back to main cue list
- select group
- apply cue list effect

I can understand that some effects would be "hard" to work into this process, but "Block Wrap" should be possible - and that is the starting point.
