I saw in the release notes that Vision Net communication is now supported. I found the settings in hardware setup but what can I do with it from there? I looked in the variables and did not notice any new scripts or commands.

Bobby,

Before I found this post, I did a bit of experimenting using the info in the full Palette manual on the Strand site. Our test were fine with a PC running designer connected by null modem cable to the PC running the OLE. When testing with stations, we found we had to "puck" the station firmware to 1.09 for the "console button" definition from designer 1.00.51 to actually function. At that point, we found the console responding to VN button presses but the LEDs on the station were not lighting. We did not try slider stations. I'm still unclear how the sliders on a Master station would align with which variable.

I notice your document refers to using the VN room number in the Variable patch and the manual refers to using the Station ID. I haven't tested to see who is right but I really like the idea of setting by Station ID - a bit more flexible. We had one station in room 1.

The manual also refers to a couple of lua commands for firing VN presets on stations. Again I went home before I got that far. Is this still planned?

I'm also interested in more on the making of a smart button with VN Preset AND Console Button functionality on the same button.

Should we expect the Palette software to detect and use the USB/LightLynx interface?

There were two items that were added in this change.
1) Support a COM port for interfacing to Vision.Net (using the VN to serial interface that I know nothing about other than it exists)
2) Support "Console Button" commands inside of Vision.Net as described in the document.

The support for Vision.Net (including LED's) works in Vision.Net Designer 1.00.42 and later. I don't know what version of firmware on the stations, etc. is needed to support this functionality. If you use the Vision.Net Designer, you'll see the buttons go on/off and the sliders change. This was how the functionality was tested (and you can easily test it with a Null modem cable running Vision.Net Designer and the Palette OLE on a PC with 2 serial ports).

What you say is what we found - OLE to designer works as advertised. The problem with LEDs was with actual stations.

My main question is how to you correlate which slider with which variable. It appears from the document that stations are patched by room NOT by station ID as previously suggested. The Master station(master slider, x number of channel sliders, Manual, Enter, Off buttons in addition to the 8 preset buttons) complicates this assignment.

I'm also curious if we have access to the Manual, Enter and Off button states.

Quite probably some of these questions are better suited for a LightLynx/Vision.Net developer but I'll take what I can get.

They are by room. But since you can assign the Console buttons however you like, they can easily be placed in a different room from the sliders if desired. The Console buttons and sliders use room number since it's more flexible. The only reason we use the button station ID when using the hard button stations is that it allows the configuration of the button station without running the Vision.Net software (and historically, that didn't exist when the original button station functionality was added). The slight confusion is that potentially the same button station could be setup to be in "dumb button mode" in the hardware (in which case we use the station ID) or "Vision.Net mode" (in which case the messages are totally different and we use the room number).

At the present time, no as these are not sent on the network as separate commands.
