Effect from Sub/Group into Cue

What's the easiest way to record an intensity effect into a look (preferably a group) and be able to load it and update it into a cue? I need to be able to record some effects before the designer arrives tonight, but I don't know which cues they happen in. I would like to be able to store them as a look or group and quickly recall them. So far, no matter which way I've tried I've only gotten the intensity levels and no effect. Here are the methods I've tried:

1. Fixures @ level, then load look: The effect runs, but the update command automatically updates the look.

2. Look @ FL: Just loads the intensity levels of the look, no effect.

3. Fixtures @ Look: Applies the level from the look, but no effect.

4. I have not tried changing to "Record Includes Subs", bringing up the sub and re-recording the cue yet, but I believe I've tried this before and got the same result as the Look @ FL method.

Not an ideal method but you could record it to a sub and then trigger the some from cue action.

Remember that the equivalent to an FX repository would be another cue list. I would think about storing into a secondary cue list and then triggering in the main cue list from there.
