USB/DMX Dongle for OLE

Post by liteman » Sun May 01, 2011 1:18 pm

I want to be able to use a laptop running the OLE to control a small portable rig. Will any usb to dmx dongle work for this? Any recommendations on which one to get?

Hi,
USB only works with the Varilite USB to dmx converters.
You could use any shownet node on Ethernet or - much cheaper - use an Enttec Ode. That converts artnet to dmx.

You'd always need your Palette channel key though.

I don't know if these are sold separately.

I agree with all of those options. You will still need a channel key, they can be purchased from any dealer. The part number is 67517 for a 100 channel key. If you want a bigger key, you can also purchase channel upgrades to add to that key.

Ok thanks. I will look into that. Any idea how much a 100 channel key would cost roughly?

it's going to depend on the dealer markup so it's hard to say.
