Hey guys,

I know I am scraping thin ice when saying this but I was updating the software for the Ion on my computer and noticed that the Eos/ Ion now have a feature they call "FAN". Sound Familiar? It didn't seem to work as well within the color picker, because Strand's is just plain better there if you ask me but in the Position category I think they might have one up on us.

Here it is. You have this option to offset how many units you lock in position. Basically if you have a group of movers in a line you can pick every other one to fly out or groups of two or more to fan whereas the rest will stay in position. I know we have the select odd or even to select every other unit but I was wondering how to select two or three at a time from the fan command. Is this something that the Palette can do? Even so is there a better way?

This is the web page with the video I am referencing. The Fan part of the video is at 3:35 (3min 35 sec into the video)

Are you familiar with the "Fan" "Tool".
Under the Tools menu (T on QWERTY),
F7 is Fan.

Once you turn on the tool, it works on every attribute.
The different fans available are self explanatory.

All other fanning, as in when the fxtures move, would be done with independent timing,
which by the way can also be fanned using the tools, or on the command line.

Don't forget that holding down SHIFT when the Fan Tool is active multiples (or divides actually) the selected group into more fans. I think this is what the GMA calls Wings.

See here for examples.

Funny I just had the same question today. It looks like we can do most everything that the Eos does except grouping fixtures ie.. pairs or triplets that move as one unit. Makes me wish we had block size as an option for fan. Is there a way to do this that I'm missing?

SHIFT WHEEL (x's) doesn't do it? It should (and everything in between). Check out the link above. It has pictures. Go way beyond 2 or 3.

The SHIFT and WHEEL works really well in dividing the selected fixtures in 1/2. Is there a way that you could divide the selected fixtures in 1/3 or 1/4 or any other fraction?

Thanks guys, the link was helpful.

I'm not sure if it's doing what you want, but as you suggest, x2 divides the rig in half. x3 in 1/3 etc.
Try x10 on 20 fixtures.

I always have trouble remembering the syntax for SELECT PATTERN but that may help here in combo with the FAN tool.

It sounds like the idea is select 1/12 and fan 1, 4, 7, 10 (every third).
